Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
