President Trump Calls Relatives of Shot Military Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Community members gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and cease issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told the program that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
