Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
