Citizens have gathered across the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was respected across the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the agreement.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an evening round of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the day's discussions ended without significant progress, because of differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the arrangement.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have not yet produce any significant progress," but pointed out that facilitators are working hard to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Essential Points in Talks

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future administration of the territory

Public Reaction

In the city's memorial area earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother lived through the incident on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No place appears as home now and until every captive return no one will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to recover," she added.

In front of the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their backing for the families of the captives. Israel reports forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "We need do every compromise necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of the population prefer the conflict to conclude in as payment for the release of the captives.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the noise of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the western district, area and zone areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"As the night comes, the dread arrives with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, described.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are lying together, clinging, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Medical Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had taken in the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city reported additional fatalities had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the south region, medical staff reported.

Gaza's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
